Last year, Rachael Ray (TV Host) had her home burn down due to a fire in her chimney. She had been getting the chimneys cleaned regularly.
If your chimney sweep is not doing a video inspection of your chimney, there is a good chance he is missing cracks in your chimney flue lining which could result in a fire. These fires can go undetected until it is too late to save your home.
We have found about 30% of the homes built between 1950 and 1990 have cracks in their chimney liner which means they should not be used to burn fires until they are repaired.
If your chimney requires cleaning, we are offering a $30 discount ($219 instead of usual price of $249) which includes a video inspection of the flue. We also make sure you can see that it is your chimney that is being videoed.
If you don’t need the chimney swept, then we are offering a $20 discount on inspection only ($179 vs. $199) through August. If your chimney does require relining, we will credit the inspection fee toward the repairs.
This is a home built in 1972 in Irvine. Major gaps and cracks. Even if cracks look minor, without big gaps, they can still be a fire hazard as when a fire is burnt the cracks will expand and open up larger voids. When the chimney cools, the cracks will appear less obvious. Some customers think that if they are only burning gas fires, and not wood, they can still use the fireplace. This is not true. We have visited properties where there was a house fire due to chimney cracks, even though home owners only burned gas.
Home in Orange built in 1960 with major gap between chimney tiles. This chimney was later relined so it was safe to use.
